Fakemon QUETZPARCE

13.4K Views

Description

QUETZPARCE, the FeatherSnake Pokémon. Millions of years ago, QUETZPARCE dominated both land and sky. It is believed to be the first feathered Pokémon, so it was hunted for its prized feathers near extinction. Due to this, it adapted to underground life using its tail drill to DIG its mazelike nest.

Name Origin: QUETZalcoatl [a Mesoamerican diety related to the Sun, wind, Venus, the dawn, merchants and arts, crafts and knowledge; its name means "feathered-serpent"], QUETZAL [a collective name for a group of strikingly colored birds], and sPARsE [occuring, growing, or settled at widely spaced intervals] or dunsPARCE
Type: Dragon / Flying
Ability: Serene Grace or Adaptability or Magic GuardPDW
Evolution: Dunsparce ---Trade while holding Bedrock Gem---> Quetzparce
Moves Learned: Same early moves as Dunsparce, however, Quetzparce has a lot of move trade-offs: Drill Run for Take Down, Fly for Dig, and Hurricane for Flail, plus Dragon Rush on a later level; can relearn Sky Attack and Weather Ball; it is worthy of note that Dunsparce can learn via TM Ice Beam, Thunerbolt, and Flamethrower, as well as their more powerful versions, so Quetzparce can learn them, too

Base Stats:
HP: 110
ATK: 110
DEF: 70
SP ATK: 85
SP DEF: 65
SPD: 75
TOTAL: 515

For a very critical reason, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all future :+fav:ers and :+devwatch:ers of my works. :D :D :D

"Oooh, look! It's a Quetzalcoatl!"
"A quetza-what?"
"A Quetzalcoatl, silly!"
"Whatever..."
"Lol."

Anyway, here's my FeatherSnake Fakemon, the evolution of my cute little Daring-sparce. My second entry to :icondarksilvania:'s contest, I present... Quetzparce! :P

Yay, details, details, details! First is the reason why I did Daring-sparce! Well, as a prehistoric creature, Quetzparce is more aggressive and offensive. In turn, prehistoric Dunsparce, too, are aggressive as compared to present-day Dunsparce. :(

Quetzsparce is based entirely from the Quetzalcoatl, a Mesoamerican diety whose name [...] has the meaning of "feathered-serpent," according to its Wikipedia entry. It is also stated there relations of the Quetzalcoatl to the Sun, wind, Venus, the dawn, merchants and arts, crafts and knowledge. I find it rather surprising that not much Quetzalcoatl Dunsparce evos had been made here in :devart:. I mean Dunsparce is a Land Snake with small wings, while the Quetzalcoatl is just that, a feathered serpent, so I made my own Fakemon based on this rather upfront relationship. ;) In addition, Quetzparce takes little basis to Quetzals, a collective name for a group of bright and colorful birds. :D

Now, onto the typing: Dragon/Flying Quetzparce from Normal Dunsparce. Not a very convincing evo line, yes, but hear me out first. I liken Dunsparce with Swablu, a Normal/Flying Pokémon, which evolves into Altaria, a Dragon/Flying Pokémon, just like Quetzparce. That answers the Normal-to-Dragon change, hopefully, as it has been done in Pokemon-dom [Normal Azurill also changes type when evolving to Water Marill]. :) So, where the heck did the Flying-type come from? It's actually from Dunsparce' Roost, a move given to winged Pokémon. As Quetzparce is Dunsparce' ancestor, it must mean that Dunsparce' small wings used to take its ancestor in flight since Dunsparce learns Roost, hence the secondary Flying type. Also, when Roost is used by a pure Flying-type Pokémon like Tornelos, it becomes Normal-typed, tieing back Flying-typed Quetzparce to Normal Dunsparce once again. You may or may not accept these reasons, and if you don't, then you better get your own pencil and paper and draw your own Normal/Dragon Dunsparce evo instead. :P

Quetzparce' moves are rather erratic, since it is no longer Normal-typed. The move differences starts with Dunsparce' Take Down to my Quetzparce' Drill Run [its drill-tail used offensively as opposed to being an escape mechanism only]; Dig to Fly [pretty obvious, I suppose :P]; and Flail to Hurricane [when you Flail four large wings, I bet you'd produce a strong Hurricane, hurrah for Pokémon word play]. Dragon Rush is its ultimate move because it is now a Dragon-type. Relearnable moves are Sky Attack [fit for a Quetzalcoatl who is constantly in flight] and Weather Ball [a tie-up to its relation with the Sun and with the wind]. By the way, the trademark move of Bedrock Gem-evolved Fakemon, Ancientpower, is already a learned move for Dunsparce, that's why there's no mention of it above. Cool, eh?

Quetzparce' 515 stat total are, again, 100 points more than Dunsparce has, similar to Snepres and Carnitrex. I will keep my explanation simple, as Quetzparce' stat growths are really, really simple. I built Quetzparce to be very offensive, so I gave Daring-sparce an increase of 40, 30, and 20 points on Attack, Speed, and Special Attack, respectively. This yields in my FeatherSnake 110 Attack, 75 Speed, and 85 Special Attack, the Attack stat still being its highest like my Serpent and Triple Mouth Fakemons. The remaining 10 points goes to Quetzparce' 110 HP [matching its Attack, effectively giving it two highest stat values], since Dunsparce' 100 is already above average. No change was made in Quetzparce' defensive stats, but at least, I didn't lower them like I did with Carnitrex' Special Attack. :P

I seldom discuss Abilities, but there is a good reason to do so this time. Dunsparce can have either Serene Grace, Run Away, or Jitter via Dream World as its Ability, with the last two reflective of cowardice. Run Away literally means running away, but only in wild battles, and has no use in Trainer battles. Jitter, on the other hand, increases Speed by one level when it is hit by a freaky Dark-, Bug-, or Ghost-typed move. Jitter's dictionary definition is "to be nervous or uneasy; fidget," or "to make small quick jumpy movements," relating to fear. As Quetzparce is rather brave and offensive, Run Away is translated to Adaptability that, instead of cowering, gives it courage and confidence to boost its STAB moves from 150% to 200% Power. Adaptability also reflects Quetzparce' capacity to "adapt" to a new habitat, as the Dex entry stated above. Jitter, on the other hand, is translated to Magic Guard, helping Quetzparce avoid indirect damage, fighting without being afraid [in contrast with Jitter]. Whew, long explanation. ^^; Oh, and Quetzparce gets to keep Dunsparce' Serene Grace! :P

Quetzparce is a rather slow Mixed Sweeper with those high offensive stats and below average Speed. It has a good variety of moves, and has Physical Sky Attack and Special Hurricane which are both Flying-typed STABbed moves to choose from. Honestly, there really is a huge selection of movesets for Quetzparce, since it is also able to wield Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, and Flamethrower, as well as their more powerful versions Blizzard, Thunder, and Fire Blast [just like Dragonite]. If I would be training my own Quetzparce, it would be a Serene Grace Mixed Sweeper with Dragon Rush, Hurricane, Rain Dance, and either Weather Ball or Thunder, depending on my team's need. Serene Grace because Dragon Rush can now flinch 40% of the time while Hurricane confuses 60% of the time. Rain Dance improves the accuracy of Hurricane and Thunder, and makes Weather Ball a powerful Water-typed move. Speaking of Serene Grace, Ancientpower [20% chance to increase all stats by one stage], Sky Attack [60% chance to flinch opponent], and Drill Run [doubles the chance of landing a critical hit] also benefits from it. Adaptability [STABbed offensive] and Magic Guard [protective] are good Abilities, too. And don't forget about Dunsparce' capability to deal status problems through Yawn and Glare, as well as the reason behind its Flying type — the recovery move Roost, which turns it to a pure Dragon briefly. This can make Quetzparce a Mixed Sweeper Plus if you take these other moves in consideration. Just be careful of lurking Ice-typed moves, as my FeatherSnake Fakemon takes serious damage from those! :D :D

There you go! My FeatherSnake Fakemon once again roams the skies and lands in all its majestic glory! Go, Quetzparce! :D :D :D

Quetzparce is mine!
Snepres and Carnitrex are also mine!
