Fakemon DEVIOLNIR

DEVIOLNIR, the Scavenger Pokémon. DEVIOLNIR are good hunters as they have lived surviving on their own. Oftentimes, though, DEVIOLNIR do away with other Pokémon's leftovers, trying to avoid being seen. Even as it sleeps, its mane consistently produces static electricity. The DEVIOLNIR with the longest chest and facial hair leads its pack.

Name Origin: DEVIL [referencing both the personification of evil and the Tasmanian devil species], DEVIOus [meaning shifty or crooked], and mjOLNIR [name of the hammer of Norse thunder god Thor, said to produce lightning]

Moves Learned: Same learned moves as Devizap, but with the addition of a relearnable Fire Fang; can get a breedable Fire Fang and Ice Fang through chain breeding from the Luxray or Manectric families

Pronunciation lesson once again, and this time, it's my Scavenger Fakemon! Repeat after me! 'DEEEV' [with a long 'i' sound, stress is here] - 'yol' - 'near' [yeah, the word 'near']. Again, it's DEEV-yol-near! Deviolnir! Way to go!

Ok, now a singing exercise. You know the song 'Billionaire' by Travie McCoy featuring Bruno Mars? Good. Sing it with these first lines: "I wanna catch a Deviolnir so freaking bad / Win all battles that I never won." Chant to at least encounter one, though I doubt Deviolnir's available in the wild, much like Houndoom. Meh.

So while Electivire has Magmortar and Zekrom has Reshiram, I gave Houndoom his very own Fakemon BFF, Deviolnir, significantly during post-Halloween season, because it can't seem to find a counterpart in either Luxray [or Luxio] nor Manectric. Lol.

Much like its pre-evo, Deviolnir is based on a canine-ized Tasmanian devil to match BFF Houndoom, and both scream Dark-type all around. Simply looking at its first two name etymology, 'devil' and 'devious,' tells that, too. But the addition of reference to Mjolnir and, in turn, Thor, the Norse god of thunder, means that from a Devizap which can deliver cute Sparks, Deviolnir is an electric force to reckon with! Minus the name references [which I didn't include in silhouette guessing game], was able to correctly guess my Post-Halloween 2010 Fakemon Silhouette #7. Good job!

Move-wise, Deviolnir copies Devizap's moves, because Houndoom did so with Houndour. One good addition, though, to Deviolnir's movepool is the relearnable Fire Fang [also breedable], similar to how Houndoom can relearn Thunder Fang. Also, like fellow fanged Electric quadripedal Pokémon Luxray and Manectric, Deviolnir has access to Ice Fang via breeding, which makes it stand out from Houndoom's lack of the said move [might be a typing issue, Fire versus Ice, and the Dark-type cannot neutralize it].

Deviolnir's stats might not reflect Houndoom's, but their stat growth sure does. All of Houndour's stats grew by 30 points as it evolved into Houndoom, except its lowest stat, 30 Defense, which only grew by 20 points to Houndoom's 50. Same thing happens to Deviolnir. It still boasts its Physical stats: 90 HP, 100 Attack, and 95 Defense, all of which grew by 30 points from Devizap's stats. Even its 85 Special Attack and 80 Speed are 30 points more than Devizap's. But like Houndour's 30 Defense, Devizap's 30 Special Defense only grew by 20 points into Deviolnir's 50. Meh.

Deviolnir is definitely a Physical Sweeper, no doubt about that. It may come off as a Luxray clone at first glance [Manectric is more of a Special Sweeper] with the complete Elemental Fangs [Fire, Thunder, and Ice] plus Crunch and even Night Slash in its arsenal. But what sets it apart from the Gleam Eyes Pokémon is the fact that it has STABbed Crunch and Night Slash, along with a separate set of Abilities: Static or Volt Absorb [like Houndoom's Early Bird or Flash Fire]. Although Luxray has 120 Attack points, 20 more than Deviolnir, my Scavenger Fakemon has 10 points more than Luxray's 70 Speed, so it all comes down to a Dark-STABbed fast or a furious decision. Just be careful, though. Deviolnir can take more Physical hits than either Luxray or Manectric, but that low 50 Special Defense endangers its life as much as Houndoom's 50 Defense does.
